Daily operations, administration and management
Van Barry, director of athletics at River Oaks Country Club in Houston and the tournament director of US Men’s Clay Court Championship, has been named the new executive director of USTA Texas.
“We are excited to have Van join the USTA Texas team as executive director. His past accomplishments as a player, tennis professional and tournament director provide a solid base for leading the section into the future,” said Dan Barta, USTA Texas president. “Van assumes the ED role of one of the strongest sections in the USTA organization.”
At USTA Texas, Barry will be responsible for the daily operations, administration and management of the section. With more 54,000 members, USTA Texas is the third-largest within the United States Tennis Association. The organization’s overall purpose is to promote the game of tennis as well as develop and administer community, recreational and competitive programs, for players of all ages.
Serving as the director of athletics at River Oaks since 1992, Barry has also been responsible for all aspects of the Clay Courts Championship since 1993. His dual supervision experiences included membership services, year-round employee and seasonal management for the tennis, fitness and aquatics departments, event sponsorship development, and player recruitment, television rights, ticketing, budgeting and overseeing a 100 team volunteer staff.
Barry is a USPTA Master Professional who has researched and negotiated more than $30 million in sponsorship revenue, along with being a frequent host and contributor to television shows and radio broadcasts.
